Beetroot Smoothie For a Healthy Heart

Whether you are or aren’t a beetroot fan, I promise you that you will love this smoothie! I have never eaten enough beetroot to make my mind up about whether I actually like it or not but I have always loved beetroot in salads, especially when combined with walnuts.

I bought a pack of 4 beetroots the other week and wondered what to do with them. The health benefits of beetroots are incredible and I wanted to create new recipes that would get me enjoy this root vegetable more often. I recently got inspired by a smoothie recipe which I really wanted to try. I made it and ended up loving it that much, that I had to share it with you!

Please, don’t be put off by this smoothie if beetroot really isn’t your thing. The banana adds the right amount of sweetness and hides the strong beetroot taste. I put a thumb of fresh ginger in because, not only I absolutely love ginger and add it to everything, but I also really enjoy the tangy kick it adds to the overall result.

I N G R E D I E N T S :

  • 100 – 130g of cooked beetroot (I bought a pack of 4 weighing 500g in total and used one piece)
  • 1 banana
  • a thumb of fresh ginger
  • 300ml of plant-based milk (I usually use oat milk)

This amount is perfect for one serving. If you’d like to share your smoothie with someone else, I would recommend to double on up the ingredients.

M E T H O D :

Simply add all ingredients into your blender/smoothie maker (I use my favourite Nutribullet) and blend until smooth.

What Else You can Add:

This is totally optional but if you wanted to add extra vitamins, blueberries or pineapple would work really well.

Health Benefits of Beetroot:

Beetroots are packed with essential nutrients and are a great source of fibre, manganese, vitamin B9, iron and vitamin C. Beetroots and beetroot juice have been associated with numerous health benefits, including improved blood flow, lower blood pressure, and increased exercise performance.
