Simple, Cheap & Delicious Home Made Hummus
Hummus! A word no one really heard of until only a few years ago, now classed as #1 dip we cannot live without!
Creamy, satisfying and packed with plant-based protein. Surprisingly simple spread that can be made with just a handful of ingredients everyone can find in their homes at all times.
I am sharing a very simple, pretty basic recipe with you that any of you can make, as long as you have a food processor or a blender.
I N G R E D I E N T S :
- 1 tin of chickpea
- 4 tbsp of tahini
- 2-3 tbsp of olive oil
- juice of 1 lemon
- 1/2 tsp of smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp of ground cumin
- 1-2 garlic cloves
- water
This will make enough for at least 3 decent portions. You can store it in the fridge for up to one week, just make sure to use an air tight container.
M E T H O D :
Hummus is great in between main meals as a snack, for when you have friends over, or simply anytime you fancy something easy to snack on. It’s great for movie nights with nachos or pita bread, or if you want to opt for a healthier version, then carrot, cucumber or celery sticks are a great alternative. Being made of chickpea, hummus is a rich source of vitamins, minerals and fibre. Additionally, chickpeas are high in protein and make an excellent replacement for meat.
And there you have it! I hope you enjoy it! As always, feel free to add any additional ingredients to tweak and customise this recipe as much to your liking as you may fancy. Some grilled or roasted peppers and chillies would work really well to add a bit of colour and spice!
With an average price of 50p for a tin of chickpeas and all remaining basic ingredients being pretty much in everyone’s kitchen cupboard at all times, this must be one of the cheapest things on earth you can make. It’s delicious and healthy and simply just so easy to make!
Enjoy 🙂
